Pete King's Thoughts & Whereabouts: 10/14 & 10/15
Wednesday - October 14th
Washington, D.C.
10:00 a.m. - Homeland Security Committee hearing on diversity in hiring. Is a significant issue but I pointed out that the Committee has had virtually no hearings on terrorism and topics such as WMD and Guantanamo.
2:00 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. - Talk to Sports Illustrated reporter regarding European basketball teams who renege on contracts with American players and why the USA exhibitions with these teams. I've sent a letter to NBA Commissioner Stern asking for an explanation. See story here.
3:00 p..m. - 3:45 p.m. - Votes on House floor including Iran Sanctions.
4:00 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. - Intelligence Committee briefing.
5:00 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. - Talk with Newsday about NBA story. See story here.
Thursday - October 15th
9:30 p.m. - 10:00 a.m. - Financial Services Committee votes.
10:05 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. - Intelligence Committee meeting.
12:05 p.m. - 12:10 p.m. - Speak on House floor on Homeland Security bill. Support bill overall but am critical of (a) failure to fully fund New York's Securing The Cities program (b) allowing terrorists from GITMO into US for trail and (c) reduction of fire grants.
12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Meet with FBI at Intelligence Committee
6:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. - Amtrak from Union Station to Penn Station.
