Pete King's Thoughts & Whereabouts: 1/20 - 1/21
Wednesday, January 20, 2010
9:15 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. - GOP Conference. Everyone ecstatic over Scott Brown's victory. Real opportunity for us to win 30-40 House seats. Still a long way to November however.
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Homeland Security Committee hearing on White House gate crashers. The Salahis appeared but took the 5th Amendment. I said the main issue was the White House refusal to have Desiree Rogers - the White House Social Secretary - testify. "What is the White House hiding? Why are they stonewalling?"
1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - On House floor speaking on legislation (H. Res. 1009) honoring the CIA members killed last month in Afghanistan and leading the GOP debate supporting the Secure the Cities bill (H.R. 2611) which would fund radiation detection at all the entrances to New York City (bridges, tunnels, parkways, toll bridges, waterways). This is very vital to NYC and Long Island. Both bills passed unanimously.
6:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. - Meeting at Financial Services Committee with Charlie Gasparino - the CNBC business commentator and author of "The Sellout" and then dinner later. Very interesting guy, terrific commentator.
Thursday, January 21st
8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. - Breakfast at Capitol Hill Club with Anselmo De La Cruz, a soldier I met 3 years ago at Walter Reed when he was recovering from severe wounds in Iraq. Today he was in from Colorado where he is going to college. His recovery as been great. He met yesterday with President Obama as a part of the Big Brother - Big Sister program.
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - meeting in office with Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco.
2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - US Air Shuttle to La Guardia.
