Pete King's Thoughts & Whereabouts: 12/19 - 12/22

Saturday, December 19, 2009
3:00 p.m.
– get media calls at home re Ben Nelson supporting Obama healthcare giving Dems 60 votes. I tell them I still oppose bill and it is “horrendous.”

Monday, December 21st
9:00 – 11:30 a.m.
– to Manhattan for annual physical. All is well. I’m in fighting shape for another year. Also phoned Sal Cassano of FDNY to congratulate him for being named FDNY Commissioner by Mayor Bloomberg. Sal is a great guy, a great friend and will be a terrific Commissioner.

6:30 – 9:30 p.m. – to Milleridge Cottage for Nassau GOP dinner celebrating great 2009 victories. Joe Mondello was in good form. Ed Mangano gave terrific speech. During dinner I get call from WABC-TV saying Rudy will announce tomorrow he is not going to run for Governor or Senate in 2010. He will endorse Rick Lazio for Governor. I say Rudy will always be a force in NY GOP politics. I also say I strongly support Rick for Governor.

Tuesday, December 22nd
11:30 a.m.
– get phone call from WABC-TV saying Rudy told them he would support me for Senate, stressing over 40 years of friendship. I say I have been contacted by other leaders and asked to reconsider my decision not to run. I am talking it over with my family and will decide in early New Year. Don’t expect to change me mind.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. – media calls from Newsday and Times regarding Rudy’s Senate comments.

3:30 p.m. – talk with Rick Lazio, pledge my full support.

6:00 – 6:30 p.m. – train at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy with Chris Cardona.
