Pete King's Thoughts & Whereabouts: 9/11
Friday, September 11th
Eighth anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001
8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
To district office where we're running the 3rd annual blood drive to commemorate the September 11 attacks. Once again great job by Patricia Gartland who coordinates the day with Long Island Blod Services. More than 50 people are committed to donate blood. My office has been turned into an infirmary and a truck downstairs is also filled with cots. I gave blood and survived.
1:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
With Rosemary to Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury where many 9/11 victims are buried. It was raining but a number of 9/11 family members were there including the brother of FDNY hero Orio Palmer.
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Back to district office where the blood donors are still arriving. The total is now over 70. Ken Haskell (FDNY) who lost two brothers on 9/11 stopped by to say the 9/11 commemoration at Seaford High School will be indoors because of rain.
