Congressman Pete King Honored By 9/11 Health Watch Organization

This month, I was honored by the 9/11 Health Watch organization for leading the fight to pass the Zadroga 9/11 Healthcare Act which will provide permanent monitoring and healthcare for police officers, firefighters, EMS and construction workers who have or will become ill from illnesses they incurred at Ground Zero. So far more than 33,000 of these workers are suffering from 9/11 illnesses, many of which are rare and deadly. Getting the 9/11 Healthcare bill enacted was a long, hard fight because of strong opposition from southern and western Congressmen who were very anti-New York. In the end the good guys won and the heroic Ground Zero workers will get the medical care and treatment they need and deserve. God Bless America!

Congressman Pete King Speaks at Suffolk County American Legion Breakfast

Today I had the privilege of speaking in Brentwood at the American Legion's Annual Suffolk County Legislative Breakfast. American Legion members from all over Suffolk attended including County Commander Bill Farley of Lindenhurst and Past County Commander Tom Wagner of Bayport. I thanked the Legion members for their dedicated service not only in the military but also in the Legion after their active duty service was concluded. I stressed my consistent support for veterans throughout my years in Congress including leading the fight to bring the G.I. Bill of Rights into the 21st Century and increasing programs to treat veterans and their family members for PTSD. As far as I am concerned, America can never fully repay the debt we owe to our veterans!

Congressman King Works With Local Unions

Long Island's Building and Construction Trades Unions are a vital and necessary part of the Long Island economy. The members of these unions and their families are outstanding members of our communities and neighborhoods. I have always worked closely with these unions -- the members and the leaders -- and their support has meant a great deal to me. Two very good friends over the years have been John Duffy, Business Manager of Operating Engineers Local 138 and Pete Zarcone, Executive Board Member of Laborers Local 66. I look forward to continuing my cooperation with the Building Trades as construction goes forward on Long Island and we rebuild and expand our infrastructure.

Congressman Pete King Visits UPS Facility in Farmingdale

United Parcel Service is the world's largest package delivery company and a major employer on Long Island, including 1,000 employees who reside in the 2nd Congressional District. Recently I had the opportunity to once again visit the UPS facility in Farmingdale where I walked through the loading docks and spoke with many of the employees. Having loaded and unloaded trucks and freight cars many years ago at the Railway Express terminal on the West Side of Manhattan, it was interesting to see just how much the process has been improved and expedited. I also appreciated being able to congratulate the employees who were honored for their years of outstanding service. It was reassuring to see how effectively UPS has adjusted to the expanded and competitive e-commerce economy and continues to provide needed jobs to America's workers.

Yesterday I had the great opportunity to be in the House chamber when French President Emmanuel Macron made his historic address to a Joint Session of Congress. I was also able to speak briefly with President Macron on the House floor just after his speech and thank him for standing with America in the war against terrorism and for forging such a close working relationship with President Trump.

France is our oldest ally, standing with us in our Revolutionary War against the British. While we stood with the French in World War I and World War II, our relationship with France has not always been a smooth one. (Charles DeGaulle and Jacques Chirac were two of the French leaders with whom we had differences.)

Elected last year in an upset victory, the 40 year old Macron was generally expected to be the European anti-Trump. Instead he and President Trump have formed a strong personal friendship and solid working relationship. They stand as one in their belief that Islamist terrorism must be crushed and that Iran can never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

On the subject of Iran, while President Trump believes we should pull out of the Iran nuclear deal reached with the Obama Administration, Macron believes we can achieve the same goal of a non-nuclear Iran through other means. President Trump has said he will consider Macron's proposals. Whether they end up agreeing on the specifics, the fact that these two world leaders can work together is a tribute to them and a strong measure of their joint commitment to the democratic values which underly our two nations. It also sends a strong signal to our enemies -- including ISIS, Islamist terrorism and Assad's Syria.

Viva la France! God Bless America!!
