Congressman Pete King Honored By 9/11 Health Watch Organization
This month, I was honored by the 9/11 Health Watch organization for leading the fight to pass the Zadroga 9/11 Healthcare Act which will provide permanent monitoring and healthcare for police officers, firefighters, EMS and construction workers who have or will become ill from illnesses they incurred at Ground Zero. So far more than 33,000 of these workers are suffering from 9/11 illnesses, many of which are rare and deadly. Getting the 9/11 Healthcare bill enacted was a long, hard fight because of strong opposition from southern and western Congressmen who were very anti-New York. In the end the good guys won and the heroic Ground Zero workers will get the medical care and treatment they need and deserve. God Bless America!

Congressman Pete King Speaks at Suffolk County American Legion Breakfast
Today I had the privilege of speaking in Brentwood at the American Legion's Annual Suffolk County Legislative Breakfast. American Legion members from all over Suffolk attended including County Commander Bill Farley of Lindenhurst and Past County Commander Tom Wagner of Bayport. I thanked the Legion members for their dedicated service not only in the military but also in the Legion after their active duty service was concluded. I stressed my consistent support for veterans throughout my years in Congress including leading the fight to bring the G.I. Bill of Rights into the 21st Century and increasing programs to treat veterans and their family members for PTSD. As far as I am concerned, America can never fully repay the debt we owe to our veterans!
Congressman Pete King Speaks With Students at McKenna Elementary School in Massapequa Park
I had a great time meeting with 4th-6th grade students from McKenna Elementary School in Massapequa Park. Terrific group of kids. Discussed the role of Congress as well as the Presidential race. I hope the kids got as much out of it as I did.
Congressman King Works With Local Unions
Long Island's Building and Construction Trades Unions are a vital and necessary part of the Long Island economy. The members of these unions and their families are outstanding members of our communities and neighborhoods. I have always worked closely with these unions -- the members and the leaders -- and their support has meant a great deal to me. Two very good friends over the years have been John Duffy, Business Manager of Operating Engineers Local 138 and Pete Zarcone, Executive Board Member of Laborers Local 66. I look forward to continuing my cooperation with the Building Trades as construction goes forward on Long Island and we rebuild and expand our infrastructure.
Congressman Pete King Visits UPS Facility in Farmingdale
United Parcel Service is the world's largest package delivery company and a major employer on Long Island, including 1,000 employees who reside in the 2nd Congressional District. Recently I had the opportunity to once again visit the UPS facility in Farmingdale where I walked through the loading docks and spoke with many of the employees. Having loaded and unloaded trucks and freight cars many years ago at the Railway Express terminal on the West Side of Manhattan, it was interesting to see just how much the process has been improved and expedited. I also appreciated being able to congratulate the employees who were honored for their years of outstanding service. It was reassuring to see how effectively UPS has adjusted to the expanded and competitive e-commerce economy and continues to provide needed jobs to America's workers.
Congressman Pete King Meets With Berner Middle School (Massapequa) Students
Berner Middle School in Massapequa is an outstanding school. Congressman Pete King attends Central Islip Fire Department Open House
Central Islip is an outstanding community which I am proud to represent. The Central Islip Fire Department is an integral part of the community and recently held an Open House focused on fire safety which included displays of fire apparatus and equipment, live demonstrations and distribution of education materials. There was a massive turnout of Central Islip residents at the Open House, especially parents with their young children. It was great to talk with many of the firefighters and thank them for their service, along with MTA police officers who also attended. All in all a terrific evening hosted by a great fire department.
Congressman Pete King Endorsed by NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association
I am very proud to have been endorsed by the NYPD's Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA). Police put their lives on the line for us every day. Throughout my years in Congress I have strongly supported the police. That's why the SBA endorsement means so much to me. I thanked SBA President Ed Mullins for the endorsement and assured him I would do all I can to justify the SBA's support.
Congressman Pete King Honored for Support of Diabetes Care
I was very proud to receive the Congressman of the Year Award from the Metropolitan New York Association of Diabetes Educators for my support of Diabetes Care & Self-Management Education. Diabetes is a serious disease which is growing at an epidemic rate. Almost 2.1 million people in New York alone, including many friends, are suffering from Diabetes. In Congress I am a member of the Diabetes Caucus and was the lead Republican cosponsor of the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Act which caused Medicare to cover beneficiaries who participate in the National Diabetes Prevention Program. I was presented the Award by Margaret Pellizzari and Patricia Landi Linekin.
