At a time of international crises in North Korea, Syria and Iran and tragic murders here on Long Island, it is important to take time out to appreciate the really positive aspects of our lives. To me nothing is better than watching and enjoying youth sports -- particularly baseball.
Last night I went out to Baseball Heaven in Yaphank for a game between the Titans and the Steel -- the opening game of a weekend tournament. Baseball Heaven is an amazing facility comprised of 7 AstroTurf fields and the quality of play by these 12 year old kids was outstanding. With all the parents, grandparents, friend and neighbors cheering the teams on and the kids playing so well, it was a terrific evening.
This morning I went to a number of Little League openings including Massapequa International, which as always was one of the largest. Little League not only provides opportunity for boys and girls to play baseball and stay active, it also brings the community together -- and Massapequa is an outstanding community.
So let's look forward to a great season of baseball for kids all over Long Island. Play Ball!!
