Congressman Pete King Honored By 9/11 Health Watch Organization
Press Release – This month, I was honored by the 9/11 Health Watch organization for leading the fight to pass the Zadroga 9/11 Healthcare Act which will provide permanent monitoring and healthcare for police officers, firefighters, EMS and construction workers who have or will become ill from illnesses they incurred at Ground Zero. So far more than 33,000 of these workers are suffering from 9/11 illnesses, many of which are rare and deadly. Getting the 9/11 Healthcare bill enacted was a long, hard fight because of strong opposition from southern and western Congressmen who were very anti-New York. In the end the good guys won and the heroic Ground Zero workers will get the medical care and treatment they need and deserve. God Bless America!

American Legion members from all over Suffolk attended including County Commander Bill Farley of Lindenhurst and Past County Commander Tom Wagner of Bayport. I stressed my consistent support for veterans throughout my years in Congress including leading the fight to bring the G.I. Bill of Rights into the 21st Century and increasing programs to treat veterans and their family members for PTSD. As far as I am concerned, America can never fully repay the debt we owe to our veterans!

Two very good friends over the years have been John Duffy, Business Manager of Operating Engineers Local 138 and Pete Zarcone, Executive Board Member of Laborers Local 66. I look forward to continuing my cooperation with the Building Trades as construction goes forward on Long Island and we rebuild and expand our infrastructure.

Congressman Pete King Visits UPS Facility in Farmingdale
Press Release – United Parcel Service is the world's largest package delivery company and a major employer on Long Island, including 1,000 employees who reside in the 2nd Congressional District. Recently I had the opportunity to once again visit the UPS facility in Farmingdale where I walked through the loading docks and spoke with many of the employees. Having loaded and unloaded trucks and freight cars many years ago at the Railway Express terminal on the West Side of Manhattan, it was interesting to see just how much the process has been improved and expedited. I also appreciated being able to congratulate the employees who were honored for their years of outstanding service. It was reassuring to see how effectively UPS has adjusted to the expanded and competitive e-commerce economy and continues to provide needed jobs to America's workers.

There was a massive turnout of Central Islip residents at the Open House, especially parents with their young children. All in all a terrific evening hosted by a great fire department.

In Congress I am a member of the Diabetes Caucus and was the lead Republican cosponsor of the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Act which caused Medicare to cover beneficiaries who participate in the National Diabetes Prevention Program. I was presented the Award by Margaret Pellizzari and Patricia Landi Linekin.

Congressman Pete King Honored By West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition
Press Release – On Sunday, I had the privilege of speaking at a luncheon and being honored by the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition held at Captain Bill's Restaurant in Bay Shore. Breast cancer is a deadly disease with almost 250,000 new cases being diagnosed each year. Virtually everyone has a relative, friend or neighbor who has been stricken with breast cancer. (I remember the concern in my family when my own mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, her cancer was detected at an early stage. She was successfully treated and lived another 21 years with no recurrence of cancer.) During my time in Congress I have consistently supported increased research and access to screening and diagnostic mammographies. Much progress has been made in the struggle against breast cancer but more must be done. At the luncheon I thanked and congratulated the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition for its untiring efforts and dedication toward finding a cure for breast cancer, particularly its advocacy of legislation (HR 1197) to establish a governmental-private sector commission to find a cure for breast cancer by 2020. Along with more than 265 Members of Congress I am a co-sponsor of this legislation and am committed to getting it passed and signed into law as early as possible. This bill will not require any additional funds and will focus on using existing technologies and research to prevent breast cancer and its metastasis. This is war which must be won!

Congressman Pete King Congratulates Amityville VFW on 70th Anniversary
Press Release – The Veterans of Foreign War is an outstanding organization consisting entirely of veterans who have served our nation overseas. This month VFW Post 7223 in Amityville celebrated its 70th anniversary and I had the privilege of being the main speaker at the Post's Anniversary Celebration Dinner held at the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club. The VFW exemplifies the best of America -- patriotism, respect for values and support for our troops. In my speech I emphasized the obligation and necessity of rebuilding our military and providing healthcare, education and job training for returning veterans. At a time when so much coverage and notoriety are given to the likes of Colin Kaepernick who refuses to honor our flag, it is more important than ever that we applaud the brave men and women of the VFW. God Bless America!

Congressman Pete King Endorsed By Major Law Enforcement Organizations
Press Release – I am proud to have been endorsed by virtually every major law enforcement organization in the 2nd Congressional District and New York City. The groups endorsing me from Nassau County include the Nassau County PBA, the Superior Officers Association, the Detectives' Association and the Court Officers Benevolent Association. In Suffolk County, I have been endorsed by the Coalition of Suffolk Police Unions consisting of the Suffolk County PBA, the Detective Investigators, the Detectives Association, the Police Conference and the Superior Officers Association. I also received the strong endorsement of the Suffolk County Correction Officers Association. In New York City, I was endorsed by the NYPD's PBA and the Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains Benevolent Associations. These endorsements mean a great deal to me. Even though they are constantly attacked by special interests and their allies in politics and the media, the men and women of law enforcement continue put their lives on the line every day to protect all of us. Throughout my years in Congress I have always stood with the police. And I always will. We cannot allow critics who have never walked in a cop's shoes to take cheap shots from the sidelines and second guess split second, life and death decisions. I thank the police, the corrections officers and the court officers for having faith in me. I won't let them down.

Congressman Pete King Joins Rolling Thunder in Supporting Our Veterans
Press Release – At a time when the likes of Colin Kaepernick insult our flag and all that it represents, it is more important than ever that good Americans stand by our veterans. These are the men and women who put their lives on the line defending America. One group which strongly supports America's veterans is Rolling Thunder, an organization comprised almost entirely of veterans and relatives of veterans. This Friday night, I had the opportunity to speak at a meeting of Rolling Thunder, NY Chapter 6 held at the Marine Corps League building in Massapequa. I had met a number of Rolling Members before and it was really a privilege to spend an evening with them. The key issues we discussed were VA healthcare, housing and job opportunities for veterans and making sure that education benefits and the GI Bill of Rights kept pace with the 21st Century. I also, of course, thanked Rolling Thunder for all that it does to keep patriotism alive. God Bless America!

Congressman Pete King Attends Massapequa American Legion Flag Retirement Ceremony
Press Release – Recently I had the privilege of attending the annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Massapequa American Legion Hall. In this ceremony, old and tattered flags are disposed of with respect and dignity. The American flag is the symbol of our nation's unity and greatness. It is also the banner of the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who have always answered their nation's call and defended us in battle. True Americans honor and salute this flag. It was particularly meaningful and reassuring to be present at this beautiful ceremony at a time when the likes of Colin Kaepernick refuse to stand for the National Anthem which honors our flag and all that it represents. Let me thank the American Legion, particularly Massapequa Post 1066 and Commander Jack Ryan, for doing so much to preserve American patriotism. God Bless America.

Congressman Pete King Discusses Override of Pres. Obama JASTA Veto
Press Release – Today's historic Congressional override of President Obama's veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) is a victory for 9/11 families and the rule of law. JASTA will allow these families to sue the government of Saudi Arabia for any involvement it may have had in the 9/11 attacks. I am proud to have been the lead sponsor of JASTA in the House and am particularly proud to have worked so closely with 9/11 families, especially Terry Strada the widow of Tom Strada. JASTA is a precisely drawn bill. Despite what the President and the Saudis have claimed, JASTA merely closes a legal loophole and DOES NOT put American soldiers or diplomats at risk. It does allow 9/11 families to seek justice. God Bless America!!! (The Senate vote to override was 97-1; the House vote was 348-77.)

Congressman Pete King Meets With Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke
Press Release – David Clarke, the Sheriff of Milwaukee County, is a truly outstanding leader. Sheriff Clarke has spent his entire career in law enforcement and is a strong, no nonsense guy who has no problem standing up to special interests and their allies in the liberal media. This is particularly true when Sheriff Clarke speaks out against Black Lives Matter and exposes their hypocrisy. I have met and spoken with Sheriff Clarke a number of times and it is inspiring to be with a true leader who is able to so articulately defend our nation's police. No one does more to save black lives, white lives and all lives more than the men and women in blue and Sheriff Clarke has the guts to say it. I am proud to call Sheriff Clarke my friend and ally.

Press Release – The Italian-American community makes enormous contributions to Long Island life and culture. This past weekend I had the opportunity to again attend the annual Bocce Tournament at John J. Burns Park sponsored by the Massapequa Kiwanis. It was great to be able to share in the festive mood and friendly atmosphere and also watch the intense competition. Events like the Bocce Tournament remind us that so much of America's greatness comes from our many ethnic groups taking pride in their culture while coming together as Americans to form a huge mosaic and stained glass window.

Congressman Pete King Statement on Bombing in Chelsea
Press Release – This Saturday night's bomb explosion on 23rd Street in Chelsea and the finding of a pressure cooker device on 27th Street demonstrate once again how dangerous our world has become. This morning I visited and examined the bomb site with the NYPD and FBI. Several preliminary observations: (1) The FBI and NYPD are conducting a totally thorough investigation. (2) The fact that there is no evidence of a specific terror threat means nothing at this time. Several days went by before terrorism was proven with the Boston Marathon, San Bernardino and Orlando attacks. (3) There must be a full investigation to determine if there is any connection between the Chelsea explosion and the very similar attack in New Jersey earlier that day. (4) If Chelsea is determined to be terrorism, this demonstrates once again the need to have advance intelligence which requires increased surveillance of communities where terror threats come from. (5) Walking the crime scene with the FBI and NYPD, I was struck by how powerful the bomb was and how much damage there was up and down 23rd Street. Thank God there were not more casualties with more severe injuries.

Congressman Pete King Denounces President Obama's Defense of Colin Kaepernick
Press Release – President Obama's defense of Colin Kaepernick is shameful and intentionally misleading. No one questions Kaepernick's right to protest. Every American can protest any issue no matter how biased, bigoted or uninformed. By saying that Kaepernick is raising a legitimate issue when he says that police are intentionally killing and targeting African-Americans, President Obama is giving moral cover and approval to hideous slander and propagating the big lie against our nation's police emanating from the likes of Black Lives Matter. The facts are that police shootings against whites are the same as against African-Americans, and in almost all cases justified. No one does more to save and protect all lives -- black and white -- than the police. It is the police who are being targeted and assassinated. President Obama says Kaepernick's refusal to stand for the National Anthem and his slander against police is "messy." No, Mr. President, it is disgraceful. There is no moral equivalence between criminals like Michael Brown and innocent cops who are being assassinated. It is time for America to honestly address racial tensions and injustices. Kaepernick adds nothing intelligent to the debate. He just inflames those tensions. Sadly the President has chosen to side with Kaepernick.

Congressman Pete King Supports Organized Labor
Press Release – Labor Day weekend is when we pay tribute to the men and women of organized labor and thank them for their great contributions to American life. As a former member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks, Freight Handlers and Station Employees Union when I worked for the Railway Express loading and unloading freight cars at the West Side Terminal in Manhattan, I know and appreciate first hand the value and importance of labor unions. During my years in Congress I have maintained a strong relationship with organized labor. (Last year for instance I worked closely with Anthony Simon, the head of the railway transportation unions, and Governor Cuomo to help avert an LIRR strike.) I have been very fortunate and proud to receive the endorsement of many unions during my reelection campaigns. Recently I stopped by the Babylon Headquarters of the SMART Transportation Division (International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Railway & Transportation Workers) to meet with General Chairman Anthony Simon, his executive board and members to thank them for all the support they have given me over the years. These SMART members and all the others on Long Island are men and women who work hard, pay their taxes and add so much to our neighborhoods and communities. I am proud to stand with the men and women of organized labor.

Congressman Pete King Statement on Colin Kaepernick Insult of Law Enforcement
Press Release – Colin Kaepernick is a disgrace to the NFL with no sense of decency or respect for the truth. Not content to disrespect America by refusing to stand for the National Anthem, this failed quarterback admits that he wears football socks dotted with pigs wearing police hats. What a shameless insult to the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to save all lives every day and are being assassinated in the streets for their efforts!! Kaepernick and other propagandists such as Black Lives Matter spread the lie that police are targeting innocent African-Americans when survey after survey demonstrate just what a lie that is. Kaepernick has the right to protest. So do the Ku Klux Klan and Nazis. That is a right guaranteed by the nation Kaepernick continues to defile.

Congressman Pete King Supports Improved Treatment for Childhood Illnesses
Press Release – Those of us who are fortunate to have healthy children and grandchildren must always remember those children who do suffer from serious and debilitating illnesses. During my time in Congress I have consistently supported increased funding for research to find cures and improved treatment for childhood illnesses. It is important when dealing with legislative proposals for children's illnesses that we address Rare Diseases as well. I am a member of the Rare Diseases Caucus and work with the Rare Diseases Legislative Advocates (RDLA) in Washington, DC to accelerate biotech innovation for rare disease treatments through science-driven policy. I am proud to have received an A++ rating on RDLA's most recent Congressional Scorecard. This week I met Maria-Elaina Garcia, a Levittown resident, who is Executive Assistant of Jonah's Just Begun which is a medical research foundation focused on treating Sanfilippo Syndrome an extremely fatal genetic disease. While some progress has been made, much more remains to be done and the financial costs will be enormous. Passage of the 21st Century Cures Act will provide significant assistance. I strongly support this legislation and voted for it when it passed the House. The bill now awaits action in the Senate. It is important that this legislation pass and be signed into law.

Congressman Pete King Meets With Local AARP
Press Release – Social Security is an absolutely essential program which is relied upon by senior citizens and people planning for their retirement years. The promise of Social Security has always been kept but action must be taken to ensure that the promise is kept for future generations. Because people are living much longer while fewer people proportionately are in the work force, Social Security must be updated for the 21st century. There are no easy answers but action must be taken. This week I had a very productive and honest meeting with representatives from AARP. I greatly appreciate their input and look forward to their continued advice.

Congressman Pete King Statement on Colin Kaepernick's Refusal to Stand for the National Anthem
Press Release – Colin Kaepernick's refusal to stand for the national anthem is entirely wrong. It is also an indicator of how low our cultural standards have been degraded that anyone is actually supporting this behavior. Kaepernick charges that America "oppresses black people and people of color" even though America has elected and reelected an African-American President and in the previous eight years of the Bush Administration both Secretaries of State (Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice) were African-American. And in Kaepernick's NFL the large majority of players are African-American. If he is referring to violence against African-Americans, that comes primarily from within the black community itself. If he is reciting the fraudulent Black Lives Matter theme that police are targeting African-Americans, then he is clearly wrong and misguided. Not only are more whites than African-Americans arrested and shot at by police (almost always justified), they are as likely to be shot at in individual encounters with police as are African-Americans (again almost always justified). Unfortunately it appears that the big lie of Michael Brown ("hands up, don't shoot") has become an article of faith among cop-haters. Of course America has problems. Every country in the world has problems. But no country has done more to address those problems than the United States. That is why so many millions of immigrants from all over the world -- so many of them people of color -- are desperate to come to America every year. If we are to address our problems -- such as street crime, education and job opportunity -- honestly, then we must debate them honestly. Having an NFL quarterback insult our flag by refusing to stand during the playing of the "Star Spangled Banner," adds neither honesty nor intelligence to that debate.

Newsday – Two Long Island congressmen are “demanding an expeditious and transparent investigation” of the suicide of a Navy veteran from Islip, who shot himself Sunday on the grounds of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport. Congressman Pete King Statement on Decision by US Merchant Marine Academy to Extend the Sea Year Stand Down
Press Release – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Sea Year program is a core component of the Academy curriculum. According to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), “Sea Year is perceived as a rich and valuable experience. It is considered an invaluable and unique chance to have ‘hands on’ experience that enriches the portfolio of skills of the Midshipmen.” The problems that led to the Academy and Maritime Administration’s decision to temporarily suspend the Sea Year are indicative of leadership problems at the Academy that must be addressed.

Congressman Pete King Supports Law Enforcement
Press Release – With all the charges and countercharges in this year's Presidential campaign, one positive result could be that we have a long overdue discussion on police relations. I start with two premises: the police do more to save and protect African-American lives than any other institution; the African-American community has been terribly deprived of education and job opportunities. Donald Trump is right about Hillary Clinton -- her record and policies ARE anti-police. It was indefensible for her to embrace the memory of Michael Brown, a criminal who attacked Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson who was then vilified and slandered by Black Lives Matter for defending himself by taking lethal action against Brown. It is also irresponsible for Hillary Clinton, at a time when police are being assassinated, to perpetuate the false narrative that there is any moral equivalence between the police and the likes of Black Lives Matter. At the same time though, America has the obligation to address the underlying injustices suffered by African-Americans. Education - particularly in the inner city - must be dramatically reformed and improved. African-Americans must be given more opportunity to have their children attend schools of their choice whether they be public, charter or private schools. Also incentives must be given to businesses to locate in economically distressed neighborhoods and provide necessary job training. There are no easy solutions but an honest discussion must begin. And the time has come to stop blaming the police for the ills of society when they are the ones whose lives are on the line as they maintain the order that is necessary for real progress is to be achieved.

Congressman Pete King Attends Nuclear Detection Drill
Press Release – New York and Long Island are the main terror target in the country. The most dreaded threat is a nuclear dirty bomb attack which requires only a very small amount of nuclear material encased in ordinary explosives to cause major casualties and contamination. The NY-LI region, led by the NYPD, developed the Secure the Cities program to detect nuclear material anywhere in our region including highways, bridges, buildings etc. I fought hard to obtain the tens of millions of dollars from the Department of Homeland Security to start and maintain this project which is now a model for the nation. Today, the NYPD and Homeland Security conducted a nuclear detection drill at the Cyclones ballpark in Coney Island utilizing many of their assets ranging from the most basic (dogs) to the the most sophisticated radiation detectors. The drill was a success but it drove home the point that there is no room for error. Fighting Islamist terrorism is a tough business and we can never let down our guard.

Congressman Pete King Meets With  Long Island Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association
Press Release – Alzheimer's is a deadly, debilitating disease which afflicts more than 5.4 million Americans, including 390,000 New Yorkers, and is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. It is a progressive brain disorder which damages and eventually destroys brain cells. There is no known cure. It is also the most expensive disease, costing an estimated $236 billion in 2016. By mid-century the number of people with Alzheimer's is expected to triple and the costs quadruple to $1.1 trillion. I just met in my Massapequa Park office with Douglas Davidson, who is the Executive Director of the Long Island Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, and Sally Ann Marchese, of West Islip, who is the newly designated Ambassador between the Association and my office. Sally Ann cares for her father who suffers from Alzheimer's. We discussed legislative measures in Congress, all of which I strongly support, including: (1) increasing funding for Alzheimer's by $400 million; (2) co-sponsoring the HOPE Act (HR 1559) to provide Medicare coverage for comprehensive care planning services -- for both the patient and caregiver -- following a dementia diagnosis; and (3) co-sponsoring the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (H.R. 3119) to increase palliative care and hospice training for health care professionals. Alzheimer's devastates those who suffer from it and causes severe economic costs and emotional suffering to family members. Every effort must be made to continue and increase the effort to combat this disease and find a cure!!

Congressman Pete King Praises Long Island Ducks
Press Release – The Long Island Ducks are an outstanding baseball team playing in the Liberty Division of the Atlantic League which is an independent high level professional league. Just as importantly the Ducks are a great asset to the Long Island community being involved in so many vital activities and causes including breast cancer and Alzheimer's awareness, support for veterans and first responders, and reaching out to sick children. Playing in Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip and led by CEO Frank Boulton, V.P., Coach and Mets great Bud Harrelson, and Manager and former Met Kevin Baez, the Ducks always provide a family friendly atmosphere and top quality baseball. The Ducks are playing their 17th season and have won 3 league championships. This year the Ducks finished first in their Division in the first half of the season and are also leading in the second half. Beginning in 2002, at Frank Boulton's invitation, I have had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a number of Ducks games. It's always a great moment for me (even if it's not so great for the fans!). My goal is to pitch it from the rubber and make sure it doesn't bounce. So far I've been successful. This Sunday I threw out the first pitch before the Ducks-Lancaster Barnstormers game. Again I really enjoyed the moment as my friend Bud Harrelson caught the pitch making me look a lot better than I am. The ballpark was crowded with fans, including many happy kids, all cheering on their Ducks! This wasn't the Ducks' day though as the Barnstormers won big. Still it was a great baseball day on Long Island and the Ducks are still well positioned to win another championship. Let's Go Ducks!!

Congressman Pete King Preserves Our Shoreline
Press Release – Superstorm Sandy devastated Long Island -- particularly our South Shore beaches and communities. Working across the aisle with Sen. Chuck Schumer, I fought hard to obtain the $61 billion in emergency funding that was so desperately needed and deserved. An important piece of the Sandy legislation was to restore the beachfront from Point Lookout to Long Beach. It was important though that this money be used not just to restore the beaches to the way they were but to reconstruct them to make them stronger and more resilient and offer stronger protection against violent storms. The legislation only guaranteed 65% federal payment of the project cost. To secure 100% funding, Sen. Schumer and I worked with the Army Corps of Engineers and Office of Management and Budget to convince them this barrier island protection project deserved full support. We were successful and today we had the groundbreaking at Pt. Lookout. The project has a cost of $230 million and is scheduled to be completed in 2 1/2 years. It will include new and rehabilitated jetties, sand fill and dunes that will stand about 14 feet above sea level along 7 miles of shoreline. (The jetties will be built with 250,000 tons of stone from New Jersey.) This project is vital to the preservation of our beaches and shorefront and the protection of our communities from the ravages of deadly, violent storms and I look forward to the project going forward and being completed.

Congressman Pete King Visits GKN Aerospace Monitor Facility in Amityville
Press Relase – I have just completed a meeting and tour of the GKN Aerospace Monitor facility in Amityville. The national defense industry accounts for thousands of jobs on Long Island and is an important component of our local and regional economy. More importantly, of course, it provides our nation with the most effective air power in the world. GKN Aerospace plays a significant role in maintaining America's air superiority. We live in a very dangerous world and we must constantly be doing all that we can to ensure our advantage over any other country's fighter development programs. GKN, which has a current workforce of almost 350, manufactures a large number of complex aluminum and titanium structures for the airframe and engine of the F-35 Lightning II which is a supersonic, multi-role stealth fighter manufactured by Lockheed Martin. The F-35 will be far more effective than its predecessors in air-to-air and air-to-ground combat, reconnaissance and suppression of air defenses. I have strongly supported the F-35 and recently voted to fund 74 F-35 aircraft which was eleven more than the 63 requested by President Obama. As Long Islanders and as Americans we should be proud of the work done by GKN and the other air defense companies on Long Island.

Congressman Pete King Tours Harris Corporation facility in Amityville
Press Release – This morning I had the opportunity to tour the Harris Corporation facility in Amityville and meet with its executives and employees. Harris Corporation is a major defense contractor employing more than 500 people, almost all of them from Long Island. Most importantly Harris provides major components for our nation's air defense arsenal including the F-35, P-8, F-16, F-15, F-22 and remotely controlled aircraft. At a time when the world is becoming increasingly dangerous, the United States must maintain and expand our military capability. I have always fought hard in Congress for a strong military and for state of the art weaponry. America must never lower its guard and as Long Islanders we should be proud of the role that Harris Corporation plays in defending our nation.

Rep. Pete King Attends FDNY Retiree Breakfast
Press Release – This morning's heavy rain storms couldn't keep retired FDNY firefighters from showing up for their monthly breakfast meeting at the Lindencrest Diner in Lindenhurst. Whenever I am not in Washington, I try to get together with these guys and listen to their stories. While most of the morning consists of jokes, insults and barbs, the breakfast always starts on a serious note with President Eddie Fusco reading the names of troops killed in action that month and asking for prayers for sick and deceased brother firefighters. I find it inspiring to see the camaraderie in the room and always appreciate having the opportunity to join with them.

Congressman Pete King Reflects on Republican National Convention
Press Release – Some closing reflections on the 2016 GOP Convention: Despite media reports the party is overwhelmingly united behind Donald Trump. Mike Pence is an outstanding addition to the ticket. The Trump campaign will make real inroads among Democrats and independents. The Cleveland Police did a magnificent job protecting everyone and letting us get around the city without interference from demonstrators. Ted Cruz demonstrated to the nation that he is a self-centered fraud. The delegations from Nassau and Suffolk -- led by Joe Mondello and John LaValle -- were large and enthusiastic. New York is definitely in play in 2016 and Long Island will be at the center of the Trump-Pence effort in New York. Let's get started now!

Rep. Pete King Statement on Cops Murdered in Baton Rouge
Press Release – More cops murdered and wounded. This time in Baton Rouge. When will it end? When will the slanders against cops end? When will more people realize that the men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect us -- that they save more innocent lives every day than any of their critics? I am proud to stand with our nation's police and call upon all our government and political leaders to do the same -- unless, of course, they have the guts to walk in a cop's shoes!! RIP

Rep. Pete King Statement on Dallas Police Shootings
Press Release – As the death toll of Dallas cops mounts and officers fight for their lives following last night's brutal assassinations, our thoughts and prayers must be with all these brave officers and their families and loved ones. This latest brutal attack should be a vivid wake up call and reminder of how dangerous a cop's job is. Our men and women in Blue put their lives on the line for us every day and are too often subject to criticism and second guessing from critics who would never have the guts to walk in their shoes. Not every cop is perfect but the overwhelming majority of police officers are truly heroic and do more than any one else in society to save thousands of lives of innocent men and women of all races. As a son whose father served 30 years in the NYPD, I know that we can never thank police officers enough -- but we must give them our support! RIP

Congressman Pete King Statement on Orlando Attack
Press Release – Today's vicious Islamist terrorist attack by Omar Mateen in Orlando, Florida is the most deadly terrorist shooting atrocity ever carried out on American soil. This attack is a vivid reminder that Islamist terrorists are a continuing threat to Americans overseas and right here at home. In fact the Islamist threat to the United States is greater than at any time since 9/11. While all the facts are not known, we do know this was an ISIS connected attack. The war against ISIS must be thorough and it will be long. It will not be won by sound bites, apologies or political correctness. All steps must be taken including surveillance and intelligence gathering in this country. Our leaders should never back down or be intimidated by the likes of leftwing editors at the New York Times or liberal ideologues from the ACLU. I assure you, I will keep up the fight.

The score says it all. Notre Dame 49- Southern Cal 14. I have been a Notre Dame fan for as far back as I can remember. And I have hated USC since the early evening of November 28, 1964 when Southern Cal scored a touchdown in the 4th quarter of the final game of the season to hand its only loss and deny the Irish the National Championship. The memories of that game have stayed with me ever since. I was in my Senior Year at St. Francis College working full time on the 4:00 PM - Midnight shift at the Railway Express West Side Freight Yards on 33rd Street and 10th Avenue in the Hell's Kitchen section of Manhattan.

Under first year Coach Ara Parseghian, Notre Dame was 9-0 and on the verge of completing a miracle comeback season after 5 consecutive non-winning years. All that remained was to beat Southern Cal in the season finale at the Los Angeles Coliseum. After unloading a few trucks, I faked going over to load a freight car and ducked upstairs to the locker room and turned on the radio to listen to the Notre Dame game. Great news: Notre Dame was winning 17-0 at the half. All was well and I went back down to work, giving the foreman some lame excuse for my disappearance that I'm sure he didn't believe. Keeping an eye on the clock, I timed my meal break to listen to the final minutes of what I knew would be a Fighting Irish Victory Celebration. Turning the radio back on, I got a little concerned when I heard the score was 17-13 and Notre Dame had to punt with a few minutes to go. (I learned later it should have been 24-13 but Notre Dame had a touchdown called back on a terrible hometown holding call.) Then as the clock wound down, USC quarterback Rod Sherman threw a 4th & 10 touchdown pass to Craig Fertig with only 1:33 on the clock. The game was soon over and so was Notre Dame's National Championship dream. I finished my shift and went out to Queens to meet some friends and commiserate in a bar in Middle Village. I spent the next three years at Notre Dame Law School (actually met Rosemary on the day of the 1965 USC game) and became even more of a fanatical Fighting Irish fan and USC hater.

So each year's Notre Dame-USC game is for me a battle for Western Civilization. And last night's overwhelming victory was just phenomenal as the Irish dominated and destroyed Southern Cal on offense and defense. Particularly brilliant was running back Josh Adams who rushed for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns.

So right now for me all is well. All the stars are properly aligned as Notre Dame has a path to the National Championship game if they run the table. Tomorrow morning of course I'm back to the reality of Washington, DC and fighting to retain the state and local property tax deductions and dealing with issues of Iran, North Korea and the Obama Administration's Uranium deal and Russia. But at least I will be heading back rejuvenated and in great spirits. Go Irish!!

Paid for by Pete King for Congress.
