For me life was on two tracks last night. One track was a terrific show by my good friend Joe Piscopo at Lorenzo’s Cabaret in Staten Island. The other track was the delivery of the Mueller Report after two years of investigation and the spending of millions of dollars.

Joe Piscopo had invited Rosemary and me to this performance well over a month ago. Riding along the Belt Parkway and over the Verrazano Bridge, I was following the news reports of the Mueller Report on the car radio and my IPhone. The media were anxious for the Report that many of them thought would show Trump collusion with Russia or at least obstruction of justice. But when the Justice Department announced there would be no indictments, media disappointment was palpable.

Waiting for me outside Lorenzo’s was a WABC camera crew. I told WABC that while I could not prejudge the findings in the Report, I was confident that, based on all the evidence I had seen and heard over the past 2 years and the fact there were no indictments, there would be no findings of collusion or obstruction.

Inside Lorenzo’s, the room was overflowing with Piscopo fans who are really good people and very friendly to me. A number of then commented they were pleased with the news of no indictments. The show began and Joe was Joe - which means he was great. Terrific comedy routine. Superb Sinatra renditions. Playing the guitar, drums and saxophone. Being joined by his talent daughter Alexandra (20) and son Mikey (16). (Joe even sang a song to the tune of Danny Boy!) And as with all Piscopo performances there was a strong patriotic overtone.

After the show Rosemary and spent time with Joe and his fans. Much of the talk was about the Mueller Report and how it vindicates President Trump. I said it appears that way but let’s wait until the entire report is released. It was though reassuring to see these people standing with the President despite all the hysterical reporting over the past 2 years.

Then Rosemary and I said good night to Joe (being the emotional Italian, Joe hugged me!) and walked into the chill wind of the Staten Island night. A fittingly refreshing finale to a wonderful evening - on both tracks! ... See MoreSee Less

What vindication? Nothing in the report has been made public, you and everyone but the Mueller camp have zero idea what’s in it. It’s only begun, I hope you’re right because if not American Democracy is in great peril and on your watch.

The vindication of Trump was never the basis of the report. It's a summary of US investigation into Russian interference in our 2016 election. It brought down 34 indictments & guilty pleas, which in itself is proof of Russian meddling.Whether or not the report ties Trump to this, does not vindicate him or his family. As a congressman & attorney, you should not make this assumption.

The Investigation was to prove Russian interference in our election. The question remains was there Russian interference? Perhaps the report itself or the State of New York AG will further prove the Trump organizations involvement. Regardless, the money trail will tell the story. My advice, distance yourself from the mad man. Joe Piscopo would make a better president.

  • Truly outstanding day marching in St. Patrick’s Day Parade as Grand Marshal for the Port Authority Police Emerald Society. Weather was beautiful. Crowds lining the parade route on both sides of 5th Avenue from 44th Street to 79th Street were large and enthusiastic. As always the Parade was led by my old unit, the Fighting 69h, and before the Parade stepped off, I had a few moments to talk with the Regiment’s leaders as well as with old friends such as NYPD PBA head Pat Lynch. The Port Authority Line of March was moving and inspiring, headed by the Emerald Society Pipe Band and marchers carrying 37 flags honoring the 37 Port Authority Officers killed on 9/11. Marching directly behind those 37 flags, Rosemary and I were vividly reminded of the sacrifices this Department has faced with unflinching bravery. Passing St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rosemary and I stopped to shake hands with our good friend Cardinal Dolan. Continuing the march up the Avenue, the winds grew stronger but that only further energized the marchers and the cheering crowds. Finishing the march at 79th Street, Rosemary and I got into a car which made its way to Cardinal Dolan’s residence on Madison Avenue behind St. Patrick’s where we arrived late for a lunch which had already started. Cardinal Dolan was gregarious and outgoing and sat with us as we ate a delicious corn beef and cabbage lunch. As always our conversation with the Cardinal was interesting and inspiring. He is an outstanding leader who does so much for people of all religions and beliefs. Our next and final stop was the Port Authority Emerald Society’s reception at Tailor’s Pub over on 35th and 8th. It was a fitting end to a wonderful day. Great food, drink and camaraderie. The Pipers played stirring Irish and American patriotic tunes and after I spoke and made a toast to the “Fallen 37,” the Piers concluded with the stirring strains of Amazing Grace. As Rosemary and I made our way from the Pub, we thanked Emerald Society President Tom Ryan for all he did to make the day so memorable. #stpatricksday #stpatricksdayparade
  • Tremendous bi-partisan celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Capitol Hill as Speaker Pelosi hosted President Trump and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at the Speaker’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Lunch. This tradition was started by President Ronald Reagan and Speaker Tip O’Neill in 1983 and has been continued by every President and House Speaker since then. These annual events played a significant part in bringing about the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 which ended the centuries old British-Irish-Northern Ireland struggle. I was honored when Speaker Pelosi asked me to be part of the official party greeting President Trump and Vice-President Pence at the entrance to the Capitol and sit with her, the President and the Prime Minister at the main table. This was in keeping with the bipartisan tradition of the event. The conversation and the mood at the table between President Trump and Speaker Pelosi was extremely warm, friendly and cordial. Couldn’t have been better. There was also serious talk about working with the Irish and the British to make sure that the implementation of Brexit does not reinstate a border between Ireland and Northern Ireland and threaten the Good Friday Agreement. All in all a wonderful day for the lasting relationship between the United States and Ireland and the American tradition of bipartisanship. God Bless America!! #stpatricksday #ireland #longisland

  • Happy Birthday to Rosemary who has put up with me for all these years. I met her when I was at Notre Dame and she was at St. Mary’s. She moved from Atlanta to New York and actually learned to understand my accent and New York ways. Outstanding school teacher, space designer and artist and a wonderful mother and grandmother! Happy Birthday Rosemary!!
  • I was proud to vote AGAINST the shameful, watered down House Resolution which was originally intended to denounce the anti-Semitic statements of Democratic Congresswoman Omar from Minnesota. Instead of focusing on Rep. Omar’s hateful statement the Democratic leadership went into a panic when Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives protested, claiming racial, religious and gender discrimination. After much hurried rewriting, the revised version of the Resolution made no mention of Rep. Omar’s hateful anti-Semitic slanders. And instead of focusing on anti-Semitism, it lumped in anti-Semitism with Islamophobia, racism and bias against Asia-Americans, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans, Latinos, Hindus, Sikhs and the LGBTQ community. The Resolution also cited the imprisonment of Japanese-Americans during World War ll and hate crimes against Muslims today along with anti-Semitism. It cited hate groups such as white supremacists, neo-Confederates and the KKK but made no mention of Louis Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam or the BDS Movement. All this shameful moral equivalency was necessary to avoid having to single out the words and the name of Congresswoman Omar and offend the progressive left of the Democratic Party. To make it even worse, Rep. Omar remains a member of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee. This is morally offensive and potentially dangerous when we see how the anti-Semitic left is taking over the Labour Party in Britain. I could not be part of this travesty and voted NO against hypocrisy and cowardice. Anti-Semitism and religious bias are evil and those who practice it must be singled out for who they are and what they said. There can be no moral equivalence when dealing with evil!
  • Yesterday, I had an outstanding meeting in my Washington, DC Office with Tourette Association of America Youth Ambassador Rebecca Caron of Patchogue on continued funding for education and research of Tourette Syndrome. Tourette Syndrome is part of a spectrum of hereditary, childhood-onset neuro-developmental conditions referred to as Tic Disorders which affect both adults and children. 1 of every 100 children between the ages of 5 and 17 have Tourette Syndrome or another Tic Disorder. As Chairman of the Tourette Syndrome Caucus I am supporting continued funding of the Public Health Education and Research Program on Tourette Syndrome as well as for National Institutes of Health research. I am also a co-sponsor of the Care for Tourette Act (HR 1131) which will further expand research for Tourette Syndrome. I assured Rebecca of my continued and full support of funding for research and education to aid those affected by Tourette Syndrome. #rally4tourette #longisland
  • Anti-Semitism is evil. There is absolutely no place for anti-Semitism in our country. This is particularly true in the United States Congress. That is why the House of Representatives must take action and denounce the repeated anti-Semitic statements made by Rep. Ilhan Omar the Democratic Congresswoman from Minnesota. She has accused Jewish organizations of paying off Members on Congress, charged Israel with “hypnotizing” the world and, most recently, accused elected officials who support Israel of “having allegiance to a foreign country.” These statements are clearly anti-Semitic and reminiscent of the worst times in world history. The reality is that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and an extremely close ally of the United States in the war against terrorism. And it must always be remembered that the modern State of Israel was established following the Holocaust, the murder of 6 million Jews and the attempted extermination of the Jewish people. Congress must put aside blind political loyalty and take strong and unequivocal action not just denouncing these statements but removing Rep. Omar from her position on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This is not a Republican issue, a Democratic issue or a Jewish issue. It is an American issue and Congress must take action now!
  • Truly outstanding event with General David Petraeus on Friday night at The Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage. General Petraeus is a truly historic American military leader, earning 4 stars for his outstanding service in Iraq where he initiated and successfully carried out the “Surge” policy in 2007 which turned around the course of that War. General Petraeus also served as CENTCOM Commander and then led the allied effort in Afghanistan. He also served as Director of the CIA. I have been privileged to know David Petraeus since October 2003 when I first met him in Mosul Iraq, where he commanded American forces and stabilized the region. Later I saw the extraordinary job he did during the 2007 Surge in Iraq, met with him in 2009 at his CENTCOM Command Headquarters in Florida and then worked closely with him when he was CIA Director and I was on the Intelligence Committee. His long career was marked by outstanding patriotism, dedication and achievement. On Friday night, against the green colored backdrop of World War ll Tanks, General Petraeus and I engaged in an onstage conversation regarding strategic military and diplomatic issues confronting America throughout the world. The basic format was that I asked the questions and Gen. Petraeus answered with extremely detailed and informed analyses which kept the rapt attention and interest of the large crowd. The discussion covered everywhere from China to Russia, Iran, North Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Jordan and NATO. Truly a memorable experience for all. Among those attending were Congressman Tom Suozzi, County Executives Laura Curran and Steve Bellone, former NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and Senator Al D’Amato.   • Terrific dinner meeting in Washington, D.C. with leaders of Port Authority Police PBA. Truly outstanding police officers. Their job is to protect and secure New York and New Jersey bridges, tunnels and airports. They are on the front line in the war against terrorism. 37 Port Authority Police were murdered on 9/11. We discussed key issues and what is needed going forward. I also was honored that the Port Authority Police Emerald Society has selected me as its Grand Marshal to lead the Port Authority Police up 5th Avenue in this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade. It'll be a real honor to march with these outstanding Men and Women in Blue! #portauthoritypolice
  • Massive News Conference in the Capitol yesterday to announce the introduction of bipartisan legislation to permanently authorize and fully fund the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund to ensure that full payments are made to all 9/11 first responders and survivors. Democrats Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney are joining Republicans such as Lee Zeldin, Chris Smith, Patrick McHenry and me to introduce the bill in the House. Democrats Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer are the main sponsors in the Senate along with Republicans Cory Gardner and Lisa Murkowski. We were joined at the News Conference by entertainer Jon Stewart as well as by the leaders of Police, Fire and Building Trades Unions and by civilian victims, including those who were young students in the vicinity of the World Trade Center on 9/11. The Victims Compensation Fund has worked extremely well with no hint of any fraud or abuse. As Jon Stewart said today: “The Trump Justice Department is doing an excellent job administering the program. The awards are going through faster and the awards are coming through.” The reason the Fund is running out of money is because so many latent 9/11 related illnesses are now appearing, particularly rare cancers. It is the obligation of Congress to make sure the Fund is made permanent and enough money is provided for all current and future claims. I have been involved in this cause for more than 17 years. Much has been accomplished. But we must complete the job and get it done now. The heroes and victims of 9/11 deserve no less. God Bless America!!
